Best news and/or article MOD around?

I'm running a patients support forum and one of the requirements is for mods and admin to post articles or news on pas and upcoming medical conferences.

These article or news posts will have lot of text and pictures. Registered Users cannot reply to the articles but can post short comments if they like.
Articles should be searchable, layout showed match the vB forum system as closely as possible and admin should be able to have categories and sub catregories.

I would like your folks input to find out which will be the best article/news mod for me. Please suggest what mod you'd prefer and why!

THANKS

Cinq's Article hack v1.0.2

Jolten 01-21-2005 04:37 PM

Cinq's by far

Um i hear cinq's is good but havent tried it since i have my own custom one...

the downside to v3 articles is the lack of official support and some major flaws...

Viks 01-21-2005 05:58 PM

yeah, I see lotta support for Cinq's article mod... but I wud like to know why is that. since most features are same!?

I used Cinq's article hack on my forums for last 6 months.
It is a good hack but lacks a good article discussion feature. The article comment feature in Cinq is not closely integrated to the vB forums.

The GARS on the other hand is too too tightly integrated with vB forums... and does not give a look and feel of an independent article hack .. like the Cinq's.

I am now upgrading my forums to vB3.5.. and am looking for a a 3rd article mod for my forums..

ANY SUGGESTIONS on which article hack is good.. out there.. (besides CinQ's and GARS)

I think GARS is the only article hack available for vb3.5.1 and it is commercial now. I too am looking for one so if there are others, please post.

I personally do not like GARS.
Because: it basically gives the look and feel of forums to the article section.

An article section has to look and feel different from the forums.. otherwise whats the point of having a different section anyways...

The positive side of GARS is that it is integraated well with vBulletin and is very configurable.

I like the Cinq's Article hack (currently he is working on release for vB3.5) becuase it gives a totally new look to the article section... but I do not like the fact that users cannot have a threaded discussion on the article like the GARS.

I think if someone could program a new ARTICLE MOD that have the design, look and feel of an forums independent article section and yet integrate well with vB and its discussion forum - that will be the best and neatest idea of a article mod.

That's my main concern with GARS too. I don't want my articles to look like my forums. I haven't paid for GARS (yet!) to investigate this but it seems one could mess with the templates so it didn't look like the forums.

The positive side of GARS is that it is integraated well with vBulletin and is very configurable.

You can customize Gars as much as you want. You can create modules , you can create custom forumdisplay templates etc.. Gars is the only mod which you can use according to your imagination and your skills.
