Uninstall Hacks
I honestly think it should be made standard that anyone posting a hack should not only have a install guide, but also a uninstall guide...
So its easy to uninstall mods, i recently installed a few mods that are completely messing up my forum and no one is willing to help, i don't know how to uninstall it, i need a guide that is the same as install... e.g. find n replace but to un-install the mod... :hurt: |
erm, just reverse the steps in install file helps normally ;)
just the queries run will make a very little problem, and such questions are normally answered in supportthreads. |
i tried to reverse it but its kinda complicated, a simple reverse guide would be perfect! on all hacks..

@Major: well as amy said, when we'd force an uninstall text as well, it would make the work for authors more complicated and that will lead to less hack releases which would be a negative effect, and therefore we will obviously not force anyone to provide uninstall scripts as well. |
Yeah you're right, that was so off topic. I guess calling someone rude and pointing out they won't be getting help and they obviously can't code as good as some of us was really on topic.

I never said if he couldn't code he wouldn't get help. What I said was that demanding that coders supply uninstillation instructions would be rude. And, my point was certainly on topic.

Demanding uninstallers would cripple the amount of hacks out there.
If you were to apply this rule to all current hacks, how many would then be availible on vb.org? 10-20? How many perfectly good hacks would disapear as the author simply cant be asked to spend the time coding an uninstall script that 99.999% of the time will never be used? I created install/uninstall scripts for my 3 hacks and it took more time doing those than the hacks themselves (and the second and third scripts were cut and paste!). Even after all of that... the user STILL has to go through for file edits. I really feel for you is you got a bum script... there is no excuse for that however the hack I think you are talking about does not have the 'support' option ticked. I would advise against installing anything where the author did not support it if you are not 100% comfotable with taking it onboard all yourself. Good luck |
All of our hacks have database uninstallers but not file, you need to do that on your own
