Creating Discussion thread for Announcementposts

Hi,

I created two new forums.

1. Announcement and News
where I inform the users about changes etc. and

2. Announcement and News Discussions
where they can talk about the changes.

It would be nice now to have a hack which has a small checkbox while creating a new post in the first board asking me if I want to have a discussion thread created automatically.

If this option is turned on the hack should create a new post with the 'same name + DISCUSSION' like the original thread has in the second board.

Example:
You inform the users that you have a new style installed.

Threadtitle in Announcement and Newsforum: New style installed
Text: whatever

Checkbox: Create discussion thread - marked

After clicking on submit the hack should:
Post a thread called: New style installed discussion
in a specified board with the text.
Discuss about the latest announcement here

Then the hack should remind the threadid of the newly created thread and place it in the original thread New style installed just above the users signature (to make sure its the last line in the post).

Something like: Discuss this Announcement
which should be a link to the discussion thread.

Hopefully its clear what I want to do.

Thanks in advance
jluerken

I understand what you want, and it might not be too difficult. Just a question though: why do you split them?

The answer is easy.
I am using the news and announcement board also on my portal page and don't want to have comments there.

The users are not allowed to write in this board so I created a new one where they are :D

Do you prefer a sloppy throw-together in php, or would you rather it take longer and be integrated into the admin panel?

As soon as I get $60 in my paypal account.

I'm joking. :p As soon as I finish completely testing it. Soon. :)
