copy thread with posts to both versions

We have some forums in a pswd protected area and some forums in a non-restricted area. Some pswd threads we copty to the free zone - but would like any replies to be automatically added to the other thread copy (be it in the pswd or non-pswd area).
Vbulletin ver 2.3.4
Has this code be written yet; or what would it cost?
Would upgrading VB still allow this additional code to work?
