How to bring life to a forum?
 

I've had my forum up for some time now, and I've had my ups and downs.

I've had over 7000 signups, but people rarely post.

What can I do to bring some life back? I've tried hacks, contests...?

just wondering, but what is your sites address?

i was gonna ask the same lol, what i do with my site is tell whoever is on to bring friends, i hold tournaments, always amek sure to have soemthing for them to do

Few quick tips:

-Spark some interesting topics yourself, ones where all members can reply and participate easily to.
-A new look can sometimes spark more activity.
-Don't have too many forums. If your not getting too much activity, condense your forum list to no more than 10-15 forums.
-Competitions

yeah competitions are good. We got a rap battle tourny starting which has something like a $100 mic, some webspace on our own music uploader program, and other stuff as prizes, Its bringing us in some more members, so i think competitions are always good.

this is very correcty, all of these. the first thing a forum must have is the good look, they won't read deeper if the style looks ugly. Some people will just come back because they like the style.

Too many forums cause too many troubles, same as above when you get too many forums users won't know what they should join in and even if they join in some forums when they come back again they won't be able to remember the places they posted and reply. I did make alot of forums then after my friends pointed out that it's a mess, I decided to reduce. the results are unbelieveable.

The competitions should be based on people like, never create anything like a Gunbound tournament while your users only know Half-Life.

all depend on your staffs, as a leader you should know how to command ^^
