Category Sensitive 'New Posts'
 

I have a board which has different categories. That is nothing new. The categories are unique by itself. Example, PlayStation is one Category and Nintendo is another Category. So a user in Playstation category might not be interested in topics discussed in Nintendo. So when the user logs into the board, the user must be presented with two options for 'New Posts'. When the user clicks on new posts, two choices must be given (drop down list like QuickLinks).
1) New Posts within the preferred Category, Forum or Sub Forum. (The user should be able to set the preference in the profile.)
2) New Posts from all Categories (This is the current behavior of vB)

Nice to have: When Option 1 (New posts from preferred category) is selected by the user in the preferred category or forum and finished with it, then the user should also be able to select Option 2 (All New Posts). Not sure if this nice to have is a contradiction to 'New Posts'.

I am adding a poll to this request to see if there is any interest other than myself in this feature.

What's annoying is that I'm sure we were told that this would be a feature of vB3 at some point in the development, but it never materialized.

Actually, I think I'll give this a shot. Basicly, the feature I was expecting was a search for new posts in subscribed forums. The functionality is essentially already there, the problem is that the user interface doesn't allow a custom search without keywords.

That will be even better. Search for new posts to only subscribed threads.

Actually, new posts to subscribed threads is available in the user cp. What I did was add a feature for new posts in subscribed forums; you can subscribe to a forum in the forum tools menu.
