forum list

i want to create a php page with a list of all the forums and the forum id / category to the forum. what function do i need and what files do i need to include?

basically, all i want is something like:

forum category1
url-> forum 1
url-> forum 2
forum category2
url-> forum 1
url-> forum 2

and so on
