One thread in multiple forums? (and still active as one thread)

Is it possible to copy one thread to multiple forums and have it function as one thread? (rather than independent threads in each forum).

Ie... if you have a single thread copied to 3 forums, and someone replies to that thread in any of the forums, that reply would be visible in the thread in any of the forums and the thread would be "bumped" to the top of each of the forums list (since it just got a reply).

Is this possible with stock vb3?

Is it possible with any known hack?

that's what we can call a Thread Alias... like we do aliases on our own desktop... i was planing to take a look at that feature, but didn't have the time yet.

this can be easily done, like modifying the forumid field in the thread table, so the forumid can be multiple... like 354|344|2 ... so the thread is displayed in the three forums...

same thing for adding aliases of forums in multiple forums... this can be a good feature to have a Support forum in multiple forums, but have the same content...

This is a great idea. Permissions wise would someone want everyone to be able to do this or specified usergroups?

You mean to have a support thread in multiple forums right?

Yeah, that makes sense.

So if something major was done system wide on a large website with tons of forums, then there could be one thread "copied" to all of the forums, that would act as only one thread -- ie, accumulating replies in the single thread from all of the different forums it's in.

It's definitely a worthwhile hack. I'm surprised it's not part of the vB3 base what with all the features vb3 has (wow! :speechless:)

I would think that crossposting / thread aliasing in this manner would be something that you would only want higher level admins to be able to do no?

Is it possible.

Adapt this hack (phpBB): Use multiple forums sharing a user database. http://phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=55

Has anyone attempted this yet? It would really be useful for my forums.

*bump*

Is anybody willing to make this?

It's a very interesting idea.
