Site Blocker

Does anyone have know of a good program that blocks incoming data from certain sites. I can list a half dozen sites that I never want to visit, even accidently, that I often run across while looking for graphics to use in my sites. For instance, www.tripod.com, www.gator.com. These spawns of Satan himself have never and will never have anything useful to add to the net, so can I just block them from my system?

You mean you don't want them to hotlink your images?

I think he means adware or a hijacker.

No... He means he doesn't want to be able to access them.

Just edit your HOSTS file (on win32, not sure how on linux) (Default on WinXP is "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" and it can be edited with notepad)

Example:
Code:

127.0.0.1 www.adwaresite.com
127.0.0.1 www.tripod.com
127.0.0.1 www.gator.com

^^ not sure thats it.. thats used for local hosting, defining domains (I think)

but how about under Restricted Sites (add sites)
in IE, Tools, Internet Options, Security, Restricted Sites

add the sites you don't want to visit

I want them blocked. No content from them in any fashion or way, even serrendipidously. For instance, when I go to newgrounds.com I'm prompted to see if I want to download some gator crap. The answer always has been and always will be HELL NO, so can't I just block this from coming up?

you need a pop up blocker since they prompt you in popups

I went there and 2 popups were blocked by my blocker and I seen no prompt to download anything

Just get Firefox. :D
