what is the field 'notes' for in table 'thread' for?

and is there any way to post stuff to it w/o hacking up the newthread stuff?

I don't know if the notes field is used in v1.1.5 but in v2.0 it keeps track of changes to the thread, open/close, move, stick/unstick, etc..

Click Edit thread on your board -- it used there.

It can also be used in the "Moderator Queue".

how easy would it be to modify the newthread stuff to post notes right away, so you could use them, for example, as an acronym for the link.

ie. a new field in the post thread form.

You would probably be better off just adding a new field. However all you have to do is edit the queries to pull this and assign it to a variable that you can use in your templates.
