Wreck, are you aware you are running an insecure version of vBulletin?

There was an eBulletin as well as an aannouncment about this just recently, as well as when 2.3.4 came out to fix the security exploit.

If is up to the individual user to keep their own site up to date.

Wouldn't you want to contact support via email or the telephone? You do know that vBulletin has a telephone number right?
What will a post like this get you?

Vman 07-01-2004 04:30 AM

Hmmmmm...Im sorry to get involved here, but since this is pretty intresting to read!

Lets see, It appears you have a member who is blaming vBulletin.org for some issues with the version, when infact the version belongs to vBulletin.com:
Company Info:

Address:
Jelsoft Enterprises Limited
Tagra
Birch Lane
Ascot
Berkshire
SL5 8RF

Fax: +44 8451 274322

So since they are an over seas company and you want to get your laywer involved on an international thing...GOOOD LUCK!!!!

Hell, you would be paying more for your attorney than what this progam was worth...

Also, by the thread you have posted, you really need to learn how to spell and if you are from the USA, please go back to school on this issue!!!! Its really sad to see this from an American....Funny tho....Like more Americans, we are just all willing to take someone to court to get that extra $$$.......

If anything, if you are sooooo unhappy with the service and product, just ask for a refund and move on!

Im here everyday, yet I don't post, I just read and this is a first in a long time of complaints!!!!

Im Sorry To The Admin, But I just could not stand by and read this without making a statement...I deal with damn asses all the time everyday like him and he is no different!

:ermm:

Sorry but I really did not understand anything from this message. I appreciate if you can rewrite it with a better English. Also some questions:
1- Why do you think it is vbulletin that causes someone to take over your site?
2- Is your board hacked? Is it running with the latest version?
3- Why did you post this message in this site instead of vbulletin.com?
4- Who did you contract and why?

Thanks in advance for clarification.

Funny thread. It's pleasing to know I can come to vB.org for a laugh as well as hacks.

filburt1 07-01-2004 12:02 PM

wreck, because your post had such poor grammar and spelling, I wasn't able to understand most of it, but if you are implying that Jelsoft should support hacks, then you couldn't be farther from the truth. All hacks are written by independent developers (excluding a key few) and are not written by Jelsoft. It is up to the hack author to support each hack. The support policy is clearly stated below the title of each hack when viewing its support thread.

I would like to hear the answers from Logicians questions, especially the one about how this member knows it was vBulletin that was the thing that was exploited.

I think its outrageous to come here and start whining about a peice of software, especially since as Zachery said, its up to the user to keep their software up to date and that this isnt even the offical vBulletin forum.

Its clear that this user didnt even take the time to decide which forum to post this message on before he started ranting and fired off this message, what a pity, threats will get you nowhere!

sabret00the 07-01-2004 01:28 PM

good luck in getting it sorted but you're blaming the wrong people, it's your responsiblity to test hacks you install prior to going live with them.

Xenon 07-01-2004 01:36 PM

Everything important has been said.

If it's a problem with a fresh unhacked and up to date version of vBulletin, then you have to post on vbulletin.com

If it's based on a hack you have installed, it's your own fault, and not in our responsibility.

So case closed.
