Was PHP5 released?
 

Hello,

I just put my website on hold becasue I want to learn PHP so I can use it. A cupple months ago, I bought Core PHP Programming Third Edition and started doing the tutorials as I read.

As I went along, some of the codes were not working on my server as they were shown in the book. Does this mean that I don't have PHP5 or something? If so, how can I get it on my server?

php5 isnt a final release, at least i dont think so

PHP5 is currently in RC3 State.

AFAIK it should be the last Release Candidate.

But to answer your question exactly. It's not absolutelly clear, that it's because of not having php5, if some functions don't work.

It could also be a special module, which is not activated in standard php installations (for example pdf functions or something like)
you may have to edit your php.ini fle to enable those modules

Most likely that book was written before php 4.3.x or 4.0.x it really depends on when it was made. For the majority, it wouldn't affect php5 betweenn 4.3 and Up, due to the fact Php 5 is an internal rewrite for the most part, just introducing private/public OOP on teh outside and misc other enhancements, all the functions are from 4.3.x+ though.

They have added certain functions to php5, so I doubt that book was written just for it.
