VB newbie shifting from phpbb

I am new to VB and i am totally lost with loads of options and how powerful this board is (comparison to phpbb) while phpbb had it charms one thing i am seriously missing from phpbb is that they had this tool thingie which automatically installed everything for you and you could always revert back i believe it is called EasyMod, is there any such tool available?

i guess it will take time for me to get used to so many things .. already my head is spinning lol

Nothing like that avaible, we used to have somthing like it, but with vBulletin its really better to do everything by hand, and its not that hard :)

woah that was fast thanks Zachery :) the only reason i was and still am feeling hesitant in going "manual"

1. i know myself of being IDIOT most of times LOL
2. the forum is of my company and i can't risk being (see point 1) :p
3. they are linux based so (again refer to point 1) :p :p

anyways i think so i will install the forums at home and will do the modifications here and than can upload the files at office, is that alright or would that be illegal?

1. Each hack will have step by step instructions that will tell you EXACTLY what to do

2. Then i suggest trying it first on a test site, then if it works do it again on the live site or just copy the files over and make the nessary database changes. and always always always backup before you start to modify anything with the code or run an installer file.

That is fine :)

btw you can also take out service requests if you dont feel confortable doing it your self, or you can find someone to do it on a regular baisis for you :)

Doing it by hand is the best way, because it will allow you to learn in the process. Later on down the road you might need to do some custom code work, installing hacks by hand will give you a better idea about what dose what in the code.

There is a modification released here by kura called the hack tracking log, it will allow you to keep up with the modifications you have installed, and will also run SQL queries for you.

The only draw back to this is that when somthing gose wrong you might have a harder time fixing it, and you can only use hacks with the hack tracking log that come with [htl] installers.
