Referer on registration

Does a hack exist (searching revealed nothing) that, when a user registers, the administrator is somehow notified of the user's HTTP_REFERER?

For those unfamiliar with it, HTTP_REFERER contains a URL to the last page the user was on. For example, going to http://www.vbulletin.org/ and then clicking forum, HTTP_REFERER would be http://www.vbulletin.org/ .

<a href="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42903" target="_blank">https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showt...threadid=42903</a>

That hack does that and adds a few other things to the email thats sent when a new user registers.

what happens if they've been clicking around on your site? will the HTTP_REFERER still show the page before they entered your site?

i.e. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=42903 as the referrer

or will it show www.google.com that referred em to that thread in the first place?

Are you going to port this to vB3? ;)

NTLDR 04-04-2004 07:40 PM

Yes :)

Boofo 04-04-2004 07:43 PM

Great! Any idea when? ;)

filburt1 04-04-2004 08:05 PM

Now, will that hack intelligently detect the referer (i.e., note the original offsite location from which the user entered the site), or simply the original referer, which could be anywhere on the forums?

sabret00the 04-04-2004 09:43 PM

that's what i was trying to ask :o

you're so much better with words than me ;) :p

Unfortunately it doesn't. I don't think it would be that hard to add, so I'll look into it for my vB3 version, which I know isn't any use to you though.

filburt1 04-04-2004 09:59 PM

A vB3 upgrade is approaching so it could be useful.
