Invision Power forums or Vbulletin and Why

Invision Power forums or Vbulletin and Why ???

Dear All,
I am myself an IPB fan since months now
But need to know from users/others point of views.
Please do not FLAME this topic. its just about your suggestions/recommendations..

Need to decide upon/among these two bulletin board systems only, finally its time to buy.

Please try to elaborate with some solid points when it comes to comparision between these 2 board systems

Please tell me what to select from above 2 and why ..

Thnx
Sandy...

I was/am an IPB fan since it's creation. I was using Ikonboard back when Matt was working on it. When he split off to make his own board I followed. I have always considered IPB as an equal to VB. I'm with VB mainly due to VbPortal. I needed a board that intergrated with a portal/cms and IPB and it's hack community IBResources (now IBPlanet) never could come up with something to equal or rival VbPortal. The closest they ever had were hacks much like VbIndex or VbAdvanced which are only front pages to your forums. Really I think it just comes down to your needs and which board and hack community is meeting them.

Note that as of late, Invision has started charging for support and other features, including (IIRC) importers. This is included with vBulletin.

I would play around with the admin CP demo at http://www.vbulletin.com/ (unfortunately only running vB2 ATM) and see if you like it. It's more of a preference than something being right or wrong.

And if your not sure, wait until vB3 gold is released and the admin demo is using vB3... wow it's a big difference. :)

NTLDR 03-02-2004 02:08 PM

The final stable version of vBulletin 3.0.0 which will replace vBulletin 2.

Both are quality software. It just depends on your needs.

I have 30+ mods installed for IPB and i am sure, few of them are integrated with the forums very tight.
so i am sure, it mite have surely changed the default IPB TABLES TOO.

am i gonna get technical support, in case i am myself not able to import from ipb 1.3 to vB ??

this is most important for me to know, from technical staff of vbulletin

as far as I've known, there's no import script for IB 1.3 to vb
I prefer Vb, especially vb3 with a great ACP. You would never know it unless you see it lives ^ ^
mods for vb ? oh, here is the ultimate site that provides you all the good hacks (more after the gold version for sure), none of else could be better, believe me.

The IPB 1.2 to vB2 works with IPB 1.3 as well, last I heard.
