addon releases don't count as hacks?

When releasing a hack in an addon forum, they don't count as hacks do they? I see some people where the addon releases are not counted, nor that the number of installs are shown, so I suppose not?

nope, addons are just addons, no real hacks :)

Okay just making sure heh :)

I would beg to differ on that score - they do involve real work and also require real support - so having an install button, and being able to send updates would be of benefit ...

Yeah I'd have to agree, I think that addons should count as hacks nonetheless. Some of the addons require more work than a lot of the hacks in other categories :)

I'd third that statement..
Support is easier to provide to ANY mod with being able to notify people of an update due to a found security glitch in the code (not likely with an addon, but you never know). Plus it's always nice to know how popular your mod is with people..

I can see few addons being released in the future if they can't be supported like normal mods.

But most addons don't fall into this category. If you allow them, then anyone changing a couple leters of code could qualify for this and you would have the same problem they would have had if they allowed template mods here. I agree with you Stefan. It should stay the way that it is. ;)

Personally, when I make and finish my arcade pass hack addon, it isn't going into addon releases.

Now I reckon that an addon that fits this description wouldn't survive on this forum as something that trivial would either be a template mod (and be shipped to vBT) or simply not be permitted to stay here ...

And it's not for the Hack Count that I would lobby for the alteration, but for the facility to a) know how many people actually use them (to know whether it's worth releasing them at all) and b) to provide support.

Not true. You can just make a rule that defines what qualifies as a hack and what doesn't. Just changing a couple of letters has no purpose anyway, and as such NOBODY will acknowledge it as a hack or add-on.

Add-on releases should be treated as hacks just like any other, as they ARE hacks just like any other! The only difference is that they require another hack to be installed first. Add-ons are not "less" in value, as some add-ons are actually quite large (and can easily be larger than the majority of all Hacks we have!) and thus should be allowed to have an Installed button and send-hack-update capabilities.
