vb database

i'm possibly interested in purchasing vbulletin. i'm curious how the database is set up on the server?

can an database administrator tinker with the database and modify if outside the vbulletin bulletin board?

can someone make changes and / or additions to the system database and have the changes reflected on the board?

i'm using wwwboard from matt wright now and i want to get off his system and into vbulletin

can anyone help me out?

Yes, the MySQL database can be modified outside vBulletin (a security risk if gone ignored) and affect the live site.

let me be more specific.

is it possible to take existing data from some database and move it into the databases that handle vbulletin.

i'm thinking about importing from another bulletin board software specifically wwwboard to vbulletin

generally yes it'S possible to import other board's into vbulletin.

there are also some official importers, for example from phpbb ubb, aso.
i don't know of a wwwboard importer right now, but the importerlist is not yet finished for vb3.

you may find more about on vbulletin.com

if not, maybe you can post a service request here once you've purchased vb, i'm sure there will be someone who can write one for ya :)

If you mean share a database among different scripts, then yes, it is possible, although never a clean solution to any problem.

how much would it cost for someone to write me an import script?

wwwboard to vbulletin

i plan to move from wwwboard so there is no need to share a database among scripts on a regular basis. i envision running the import script once for each wwwboard i have. that script would spit out some semblance of a database that can be fitted to work with vbulletin. once the db works with vbulletin, use vbulletin and it's APIs to work with the db.

i'd like to know that i can move from wwwboard to vbulletin before i purchase vbulletin than buy vbulletin and have to wait for a solution that may never come.

is this the correct forum to make such requests?

C.
