vb.org
with the added versatility of template system in vb3 do you think this will lead to a drop in vb.org activity as the majority of activity becomes more and more template based?
|
I do not see why it would, I beleive the template area may see more posts/hacks with this but still busy as ever.
|
I would assume things would keep the same as they always have been. If anything gets higher in popularity it will be vBulletinTemplates.com. i've already ported 4/5 of my own hacks to templates and i've also ported 2 of Scott MacVicars hacks to template mods:)

well we're thinking of reducing the redundance by closing templateforums and just link to vbt.
Hacks will always be here, as a lot of things can just be done with hacking. just some small hacks of vb2 can be done in templates.. |

most hacks rely on templates in one way or another, however some hacks can be totaly template based with vb3's new conditional system so its not hard anything that modifys how vb runs would need to be hacked into the files at least i think so |
yay close the template section, always thought it should've gone :)
but it will also be easier to maintain what you're doing and where. |

You only have the flexibility of a simple if condition and a few other things in your templates. I think there are about 10 hacks here that simply "rely" on a few if conditions and nothing else. There will always be the need for modifications to the source hence why vBulletin.org will always remain active :)

You cannot add or delete things from the database using templates, so you will always need hacks. :)
|
You can certainly add/delete records from the database with phpinclude. But phpinclude will always be less effeciant then file hacking.
