backup file not importing

When I recently changed hosts, I started having MySQL problems.

The file I backed up from the old BBS version 2.3.2 was 147MB size file.
This file is called vbulletin.11.15.sql. When I logged in as root, I post these commands:

mysql -u username -p vbulletin < public_html/forums/backup/vbulletin.11.15.sql
Password: (I then enter the correct password.)

Then it goes back to the command prompt. It doesn't import the data base back in.

When I used the import command from the phpMyAdmin query window from a different attempt, it fails too.
In Internet Explorer 5.0 I get the error page can not be displayed.

I'm also wondering if there is a hack to install into the 2.3.3 control panel to import .sql backups.

Thanks to ANYONE for ANY help.

I'm surprised using telnet didn't work. Also, phpMyAdmin woulnd't of worked since you're importing such a large DB, it will timeour.

Check out a hack called Main Control Panel by N9ne. It allows you to upload a .SQL file and such.

Did you tried to put a / before 'public_html' so it will look like:

mysql -u username -p vbulletin < /public_html/forums/backup/vbulletin.11.15.sql

?

Lesane, on my server, it won't let me try it that way.
Since I don't have root access, only user, I can't put the / in front of it.

Thanks for the quick reply assassingod.

I don't know how to do a main MySQL back up file then append it.
Never had to worry about that on my own server. I had 40 gigs
just for that BBS.

Now that I'm on another machine, I'll have to do backups in bits and pieces.

Why do you think the command line won't take it?
Is it the size of the file? 147MB?

Thanks for any help.

These are the exact error messages I get as in SSH from the copy and paste method:

bash-2.05a$ mysql -u ds1 -p ds1_vbulletin < public_html/forums/admin/backup/vbulletin.11.15.sql
Enter password:
bash-2.05a$ mysql -u ds1 -p ds1_vbulletin < public_html/forums/admin/backup/vbulletin.11.15.sql

Enter password:
bash-2.05a$ mysql -u ds1 -p vbulletin < /public_html/forums/admin/backup/vbulletin.11.15.sql
bash: /public_html/forums/admin/backup/vbulletin.11.15.sql: No such file or directory
bash-2.05a$ mysql -u ds1 -p ds1_vbulletin < public_html/forums/admin/backup/vbulletin.11.15.sql
Enter password:
bash-2.05a$

You can see that it won't recognize the directory at all if I use the forward slash.

Thanks

Just to help other that may have this same problem, I discovered the error.

What I had to do was drop all the tables from the new 2.3.3 installation.
Once I did that and reran MySQL from the command line. The backup worked.

Now everyone is happily reading and posting their messages again.
