restore w/o lossing posts

i would like to restore my board to when i first installed it but i would like to keep my members and posts....... is there really anyway to do this????

Just backup your user & userfield tables then restore them on the fresh board.

would that restore threads also......

No. It wouldn't. What exactly are you trying to restore if you want to keep members, forums, and posts?

All that's left is the style, and you just need to revert to the original style.

naw im trying to restore my board to a fresh install with no hacks, because ive been having many problems with my board but i still have members, posts, and threads i would like to keep so when i do a fresh install i can carry them over to the fresh install

well it's possible, but not easy.

you have to make a fresh install, look at the db structure and then make a dump of the old db containing just the field which are in the original DB-structure, too...

so what should i do to make a fresh install but retain all of that?????

Xenon 10-12-2003 06:09 PM

well it's all in my post above.

you can do anything else, but as i said, it's a lot of work, as you have to dump EXACTLY the tablesyou have in a fresh install..

i'd advice you to write a script for it, but as your DB might be big, you have to do it via telnet, and i don't know how that works exactyl, so i cannot say how much of that process you can automize.

another method could be to just compare the DB structures and delete everythin on your running DB which doesn't belong into the original DB structure.
It's maybe even more handwork, but on the other hand it would run faster (normally)

No. I thought you meant that you only wanted to restore your memberlist and their post count.
