phpBB2 user needs info about vB2 templating

Hi all. :)

My question is very simple.

Is it possible to use php as part of a vB2 template?
If yes, is it done normally, with <?php and ?> tags, or is there a specific way of doing it?

With hacks, it can be done.

With vB3 you can use conditional statements in templates as well.
