VB 3.0.0 and hacks...

I read that VB 3.0.0 is avail to those of us with valid licences without support etc...

What worries me is how 3.0.0 will affect current hacks installed on our boards?

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Chris

you can't use 99% of your hacks.

normally there aren't problems, but if you have made db changes you should run the testscript posted on vb.com

Note also that most popular hacks like Quick Reply, Karma (now Reputation), Multiple Attachments, etc. are in vB.

It is also not suggested to hack makers that they port their hacks over to the current vB, as it is not complete yet. Wait for at least the gold version before heavily hacking your board, otherwise you'll just have to add most of it again when you upgrade. My 2 cents anyways.

Gary W is right. :)

More specifically, it's even against the rules to release vB3 hacks at this point ;)

And even more specifically, if a hack you have added causes errors, and you report it as a bug, then bad bad wicked evil bad hacker;)

I understand the logic behind not doing *too* much with hacks at this point, other than actually working on them so they might be ready to re-post when the gold code comes out.

However, where does one discuss how to fix hacks that were built for v2? I can't seem to find any general threads or documents on this (yet) - and I can understand that... but...

For example, I have some hacks that I can live without in v3 for a while - the weather one etc. Then I have some that make up my entire frot page, like last x posts, user login on non vb page etc. These are looking for files that no longer exist - like there isn't an admin directory anymore, so where is config.php and some of the others?

There is obviously more than just db changes with v3 - there seems to be some restructuring of the file system in general.

Or maybe we're not even supposed to talk about this yet either due to possible changes still to come?

Thx.

I suggest intalling phpnuke and reworking your frontpage.... thats exactly what I did. I use to run vBhome lite but now I can't so I got a very simple splash page while I work on the new page in my test dir :)

Thats probably a good idea, at least temporarily... I knew I was creating trouble for myself by installing so much custom code on my front page. I have random photos from photopost, users log in, new PM, stats, last x posts - all sorts of stuff... all of it broken (of course) Hardly and of it seems db related either...

Oh well, it will be kinda fun to try get this all back together again. I just hope someone will start a good discussion to help hackers work out bugs and/or re-code when the time comes.
