Fast header navigation?

Hi,

I recently redesigned my forums and while I'm really pleased with the new look, I'm afraid the new header with a javascript menu is too slow. See it at http://www.tigerforums.com

Would a dropdown menu with the same content of my current header load faster? I'm willing to sacrifice the nice appearance for a noticable speed improvement.

Thanks for any opinions or help you can offer.

It isn't slow for me at school with a 66kbps connection.
