journal hack
 
What I want on my site apart from the normal forums, is two forums that act like journals. I'd want one to be private (only private) and one to be 'public' (but users have the option to post private). I saw this hack, but I am not sure if I can use this hack and still have normal forums too? Or would that mean that I have to install vbulletin twice, once normal and once with the journal hack?

But I don't think it has what you're looking for right now. Anime-loo is currently maing a pro version of the journal if you want to wait :). You can just hack in the vBjournal Lite normally and still have normal boards.
