View New Topics Enhancement

how about a hack that lets you (the user) decide what forums you pull new topics from in advance, from a selection panel in the user cp

so you kinda have aload of tick boxes in the user cp to say pull from this forum, that forum and that forum and when you click view new topics, it only pulls the info from the predefined forums

I think this has been requested many times. Not sure if it's been released, though; search and ye shall hopefully find.

sadly i didn't find it, no one seems to have actually made it

I'm having a board battle between members over excess posting by a portion of the member population affecting the view new topics. This would totally fix the entire problem!! Please, someone??

please someone make it :)

I found a solution that didn't require hacking. It's working fine for our purposes. :)

yeah that's good but for me, some members wanna see the forums post in their view new post search where as some others don't :(

We had the same situation. Here's what I did.

I setup a new usergroup for those who wanted to be able to search that particular forum. By request I set them into that usergroup by changing them from Registered to the "Full Search" usergroup (or whatever name you want to give it).

However it might be easier to do it the other way around - setup a usergroup for those who don't want the view the posts of that specific forum in the search results. Which you do would depend on the number of members that want one or the other. :)

see as i see it, if users could select which forums they search via tick boxes, it makes everyone happy and brings my work load down as well
