Php 4.1.2 + Gd

I have PHP 4.1.2 currently installed but need to support GD. I can't upgrade from 4.1.2 to my knowledge as there are compatibilities with this and vB-2.2.5 to my knowledge (I tried myself and had problems).

Can 4.1.2 be patched to support GD whilst maintaining the core 4.1.2 code?

Install 4.3.1 instead. Not only will you get the latest version of GD, but you fix your ancient version of PHP.

Thx for the reply filburt. Unfortunately as I'd mentioned I can't do this because, to my knowledge there is a problem with later versions of PHP and vB 2.2.5.

True, but then upgrade to 2.3.0 in any matter. 2.2.5 to 2.2.9 includes a Hoover Dam of security holes. :)

upgrading to vb230 is really nescesary, 225 can be hacked with not much affords

Intex 05-26-2003 06:38 PM

This is true, but I have a multitude of other hacks on the board and this would be extremely time-consuming and the net effect might be that the board looses a lot of its functionality. I've seen guidelines by Teck which shows you how to upgrade your board easily (30 mins!), but how feasible is this really?

My site is also restricted based on IP address at the firewall, so this offers me an additional level of security.

hmm it never took me more than 2 hours to upgrade a vb.
even if i wasn't familar with the code itself.
When you upgrade every time a new version is out, you learn how to do a faster upgrade every time

30 mins is doable with experience and knowledge of your own board's code

The quickest I've upgraded is 45 minutes I think using Araxis Merge. :) But yes, do upgrade to 2.3.0 or you will regret it the day you lose your database.

Thx for the advice guys. I'll seriously consider it. On the same subject - if I do upgrade, from your experience, what % of hacks work across versions from 2.2.5 > 2.3.0?

Xenon 05-27-2003 09:48 AM

all of my hack work with vb2.3.0
normally all hacks will work, but sometimes you need to rewrite them a bit
