Signature Control
 

I want ideas. I'm going to create a signature control hack for my forums. I will have limits on the number of images, the size of images, the number of characters, the number of lines. What else?

I will also have myself an option in the ACP to disable a user's signature. Once disabled, the user's sig is deleted, replaced with a message "Signature Disabled" and the user can't edit his signature through the userCP.

I want to extend the hack though, one idea is a temporary suspension...where they are denied access to it for a given number of days, and then they are given access back automatically...like a temporary signature block...

Anyone else have any ideas as to what i can do?

This sounds great. Temporarily would be good. I could use this on osme users at my forums that disobey the rules.

N9ne currently i'm running a custom script by a good friend of mine who released it to the staff on his site. It restricts several things. But a hack to restrict these things is needed greatly. Here are some ideas:

- [img] tags allowed in sigs
- [img] tags per sig
- max image width
- max image height
- smilies allowed in sigs
- max smilies per sig
- restrict sig length by words (if set to no it restricts it by words)
- max characters / words (based on the option above)

Then perhaps an edit sig button like PPN's hack but with an option on how long a user has to wait when their sig is forbidden and suspended by an admin :)

If im not mistaken aren't there already some signature image limitations that come default vbulletion options?

I am actually currently deving such a hack for a friends because of signature image and line issues at his forum :p

Well, some features come with vB, but I can use a lot of these options on a per user basis...:)

One thing I´d love to see in signature control is restriction of the filesize (for images, obviously).

I´ve set a 50 KB limit for pictures in sigs, because several users in my forum got a little bit carried away with extraordinarily heavy .gif animations... and the board just went reeeeally slow.

Being able to automatically limit that would be great!

Oh, and don´t forget hot-linking and using the forums attachment system as personal webspace for sig pics...
