How do provide proof of purchasing VB?

I don't like it when I get emails from Vbulletin.com accussing me of not buying their software. I received the following message. Which I would like to mention they don't mention HOW to prove that I have a legit copy of VB.

Quote:

We are the attorneys and Internet Copyright Enforcement agents for Jelsoft Enterprises, LTD, the publishers of vBulletin software.

On February 18th, 2003 we contacted you regarding the use of vBulletin software on your web site and the fact that it does not appear as though you have a valid site license for use of the software. We have not received a response.

Please take note that if the licensing issue is not resolved by March 6th, by one of the following actions (1) Your providing proof of a valid site-license to use vBulletin; (2) lease or purchase of a valid vBulletin site-license, or (3) removal of vBulletin from your site, we will be filing a formal Notice of Copyright Infringment with your web host and requesting that access to your site be disabled.

I would highly recommend that you do not ignore this notice, as it is the last one you will be receiving from us.
I don't have time to investigate how to do prove to them I bought a copy and I don't like the fact that they threaten to take down my site if I don't provide proof of purchase (which they don't tell me how to provide)

Anybody help me out so I can get the VB nazis off my back?

And VB team, please fix your software than 'scans' websites for no proof of purchase. When I registered I was never told I had to signup or prove that I bought VB. :p

its in the license agreement that vbulletin.com checks for valid domains running legit forums periodically.

i dont see how this is possible, because if your license was valid it would come up on vbulletin database (the domain where you agreed to only use vb on).

my suggestion, if in fact you are licensed would be to contact vbulletin.com directly, and provide them with your license number.

You need to do two things:

1. Email them your license number.
2. Go into the Members Area and enter your current forum URL in the space provided.

also, did you move the forums to a different address? maybe like Steve said, its outdated.

You run more than 1 forum. Did you buy a vB license for EACH SEPARATE FORUM, or are you using 1 license for all your forums?

They actually both run the same forum. They aren't two sites. VB is installed on TheForumz.com and 3dNewz.com (which is the site it's claiming isn't legit) is a redirector. Could that be the problem? It's not a different site, 3dNewz.com just redirects to TheForumz.com, but it's not two individual boards.

Could that be what all the fuss is about is that the 'scanner' doesn't look for redirector urls?

Are they using the same db for everything?

Erwin 03-03-2003 06:56 PM

Yes, that's probably it. You need to reply to that email, and let Jelsoft know that you are redirecting. As long as that is the case. :)

Gutspiller 03-03-2003 06:58 PM

Yeah they use the exact same stuff.

THANK YOU ERWIN ;) hehe Just wanted to make sure you saw it. :)

Erwin, you can email me my half of that thank you. ;)
