Can somebody please explain to a non-gamer type

What do level, HP, and Exp. signify? Especially as it seems to be calculated typically on forums.

hmm, it's specific in every game, but the general description:

level: the level of the person, mainly have to do with what the charakter could use as items. the higher the level, the "older and better" is the char

HP: hitpoints. the more hitpoints a char has then more hits he could accept until he dies

Exp: Experience, a value calculated on how much enemies a charakter has killed, and how much experienced he is in fighting, spelling and so on.
normally everytime a charakter got more than a specific ammount of experience, the level increases by one

Thank you :)

*mutters* damned RPG nerds...

Davey 03-03-2003 02:57 PM

Haha @ filburt1.
That's basic.
It's simple, but I think I'm more of an RPG nerd... *cough*FF Freak*cough*.
  • Level: This is the level of the character. The level goes up one when the EXP required is reached (by fighting enemies and whatnot). As you'd imagine, the higher the level you are, the more EXP you have to get to the next level.
  • HP: Hit points. This is how much health the character has. As their level increases, so does their HP. When an enemy attacks, he takes HP away from the character. This can be regained in most cases, though (healing, inns, etc.).
  • EXP: Experience Points. Say you are level 1, you have to gain 100/100 experience points to get to level 2, 170/170 experience points to get to level 3, 250/250 experience points to get to level 4, etc. You get experience by attacking (depending upon the RPG you are playing of course).
And that's about it.
Xenon was close but as an RPG nerd I don't think that was a good enough explanation :p. Good try though Xenon :);).

Dave.

you're welcome amy :)

hehe, dave i think i was very close, especially i don't play any RPG's and the only one i have played is no real RPG (Diablo).
but i think my explanation was really enough for understanding ^^

Should I feel insulted by this? I mean, us FF/Zelda freaks aren't nerds, we're geniuses. :D

I don't run an RPG site, but I use those level things too... my members seem to like them. :)

Dean C 03-04-2003 05:24 PM

My members liked them but there are better little hacks you can make to symbolise activity levels ;)
