Stupid Question

What is the point of the posts that simply say "I clicked install" in some form or another?

To increase the member's post count. :)

Seriously though, one good thing about those posts is that it can bump up older hacks that are good but may be overlooked by other members.

amykhar 02-26-2003 12:24 AM

Yep, and then the very next post to those old threads is "does it work with version x.y.z?" :D

filburt1 02-26-2003 12:38 AM

It also can make the developer feel good knowing that people actually are using it although when I get a lot of those in my threads at vBT it gets unnerving because I'm subscribed to every single thread for each mod I've released, and as you can guess it takes a bit of time to moderate vBT.

i agree with filburt1.

If i released a hack i like to know people installed it, or if they find it useful, by saying "/me Installed"

Its not about increasing post count, eveyone here has a forum of their own, and there's nothing worse that someone that post for the hell of it.

One I tend to notice is-
"Nice hack. I'll install it when I get home tonight"

Why not just wait until they get home and install it, and then post? :p

Tony G 02-26-2003 09:47 AM

Well yes, good point Mark. :p

But I agree with everyone, it's nice to know people did install it.

I clicked install.

Oh wait this isn't a hack is it?

Totally agreed.

I'm with the way of thinking, and I may be in a minority in this, but I think hack authors should be allowed to moderate their own threads. That way they can delete some of the needless posts such as "will install later" and keep the thread reasonably clean and limited to support, questions, updates, etc. But, I'm sure that discussion is for another place, another time.

Xenon 02-26-2003 04:43 PM

hmm, i can moderate my hack supportthreads rose already :D

well i think both sides have good points...

but we'll see what'll hapen with vb3 out, we are thinking of some restructoring the releases (from what i know ;))
