Advice on Speeding Server Up
 

I haven't been able to make it under a second in about 2 weeks now. And this is on any page I have on my forums. That is concidered super fast for me.

So what I need advice with is possible ways to speed my forums up on any page possible. I don't mind taking away features I'm just losing my mind trying to speed the forums up. I have 30,000 members so server speed is always an issue.

I've been having n9ne help me out with all kinds of wacky reductions but can with Gzip enabled can someone from here give me some advice on how to reduce the query load or just speed up my forums on any single page on the forums. (forumhome, showthread, newreply, ect.)

Maybe kill the billions of popups?

You could try Zend Optimizer but still one second per page is acceptable IMO. Make sure that you have Apache configured perfectly, too.

Kill popups then you kill money generated. And the server is very expensive therefor you need the money.... I know I can get it under a second as I've seen it before. But like around 4-8 EST time it's always around 7 seconds per page on average so I really want to see if anyone has any suggestions.

Well, popups are slowing the page down, firstly. But you can't get rid of them. It's your server's configuration and the load on the server...not much you can do as tM is so popular :(.

Click on the link in my sig about reducing bandwidth. It helps.

Hmmm thanks Erwin. Did a little query work on forumhome and now I'm faced with this task.

Is there anywhere outside of forumhome that you can reduce some extra queries?

Delete the unactive members?

holy hell, people actually register at your site with all those popups?! Hell, I wouldn't even if you paid me :eek: LoL

Optimizing other PHP files is a fine art, nothing that can be done in a few posts. Do a search around here for some good tips. The best thing is to reduce the number of hacks - that always save queries. Don't install anything that is useless. :)

one second isn't that bad, having 30,000 members alot of hits, and pop up's i think that is the best you can get.
but the times i visited tm it's been lower then 1 second, maybe its you're internet.

get a pop up killer.:p
