MySQL Errors

I keep getting these errors sent to my technical contact:

vB cannot conect to your MySQL server, hence the error emails.

so is this something just caused by the database being unavailable or down?

This error means either MySQL crashed, it's not running or it can't find the socket. You need to contact your host about this. Here is more info on this error:
