How Do Language Packs Work

I noticed the forum here for Language packs, but I was just wondering how they worked.

I believe it's just translations in the php files for certain words as well as completely translated templates :)

But wouldn't you have to re-edit all the pages that you've made template edits to?

I'm surprised no one has come up with a Babelfish hack! :)

Yes. You need to wait for vB3 for real language packs.
