Maybe changing the type of animation? Instead of glow in and out, maybe some other type.

well, i think your animation is better than mist's, but animations even so small ones are disturbing while reading a thread.

they always attract the eyes, and so that's why they are looking unprofessional.
you know, same as such sites with much blinking banners and so on...
