Why is vBulletin better than phpBB?

I would like someone to compell me why I should use vBulletin versus using phpBB? My mind is open but I am leaning towards phpBB so please try to change my mind thanks.

there are so many hacks and add ons for vbulletin

No one can change your mind, you have to change it yourself.
Now go here
http://www.phpbb.com/admin_demo/
and here
http://www.vbulletin.com/admindemo/admin/ -> user: admin password: admin

1). Support
2). More features
3). More reliable
4). Less bugs

I switched to vB from phpBB a couple of months ago.. No regrets, and it was worth every penny of the $180 I paid for it.

I'm not knocking phpBB.. I think its probably THE best free forum software out there. But vB is much better IMO.

The people you hear 99% of the time who left vBulletin is because they were caught having a pirated board and was forced to change because of the lack of revenue. As a way of revenge, they attack vBulletin.

But I recommend you do what nuno suggested......check out the demos :)

have to agree with Evil: phpbb2 is in my opinion the best FREE boardsoftware out.

vB ist faster, because it's better coded (especially the db things ;))
but you have to know yourself, if you want to pay $160 when you are not sure.

i think vb was worth every penny :)

Indeed...

vB is much easier to modify, and the template system, although normal to us, rox:)

Satan

Does phpBB have a template editing system like vBulletin?

Xenon 01-04-2003 03:30 PM

as i know it has templates, but not stored in the db but as txt-files...

check out yourself www.phpbb.com :)

Yes, Xenon is right. I think it is TXT files. And not in the DB.
