Uploading films

Well my VB is used by indie filmmakers. One of our biggest drawbacks however is that we can't host films. We can but if requires members to somehow get them to me and have me ftp them.

I've attempted to get films up by using teh attach file option on the "new posts" however becuase of browser time outs (something I still don't really understand) you can only go so far as about 500kb. that doesn't help.

So I'm about to move my site to a new server. I've just learned that hthere are things called VPS or VDS. AKA" Virtual Private Server". I don't know if this will help my cause or not.

So I'm trying to figure out what my best route is. I would love if members could just attach bigger files to posts. that way people could just watch the film and reply with their review. They could also rate the film using the rating option on the board.

I don't know PHP so I don't know if there would be any way to build a little system that worked like a photogallery for videos and allowed members(with their VB accounts) to upload films. That would be great. But like I said I don't know PHP or what the restrictions are.

I know there has to be a way though. Sites like singlereel.com allow members to upload films in sizes up to 70MBs. So it can't really be the webbrowser itself.

Anybody have any ideas, suggestions?

I recommend Photopost - they now support movie files. They have built-in commenting that is integrated with the post count in vB, and have a standard rating system.

www.photopost.com

It does cost money though to get a license.

Wow I didn't know it supported movies. Are there file size limitations or can you set those as the admin?

You can set those as admin. It's probably more powerful than you need. It costs about the same as vB. It works well for my site - I only use it for photos.
