a question of queries
 

hi guys and gals im new to hacking vb and keep seeing this querie thing pop up on hacks about how many it does'nt add.
i have micro stats installed and was wondering if 34 queries for my forum home page is alot?
or what is alot.
my board is brand new i have 7 hacks from here installed and about 4 templete mod's.
only have 3 people there as i just put it up about a week ago.

is this too many or how many should i be looking for or should i not be worried at all right now.

it should stay below 30...

be sure you have alle templates you ahve used because of the hacks also includet into templatesused var in front of the script.

but don't worry, it's not too bad ;)

Sometimes it also depends on the size of the query...

ok i guess i'll just stop with the hacks that add queries for now until i learn a little bit about them and my board get's a little busier.

btw this is my newest board.

34 is not too bad. :) I run mine with 27, and my forumhome is hacked beyond recognition. Like Xenon said, keep it below 30 if you can. It's the most used page on your site next to showthreads.php.

is tyhere a way to lower the queries without having to uninstall an entire hack?
mabye just stop certain things from being shown.

If you have the welcome panel hack installed, you can remove the queries for showing the avatar, that reduces two queries.

You can combine all 3 PM queries into one.

The Member Count, Posts Count, Threads Count totals to 3 queries, and the newest member is another one...it's up to you what you want to keep and/or remove.

There are plenty of ways to reduce queries on certain pages, but in effect most of the time it will stop something from appearing...

optimizing queries isn't that easy, but often possible, so you need a good coder which can work on your file

ok thats sounds good my forum right now is'nt busy enough so them welcome panel one's arn't that important right now anyway. thanks for the info.

You can do the welcome panel with using just templates anyway, no need to have a hack, no extra queries.
