vBUlletin 3 and current hacks - should I bother
 

There's so many great hacks out there now .. journals, Usenet integration, and so on.

There's one thing keeping me from implementing some of the more advanced hacks, though ... vBulletin 3. I tried searching for discussion about how existing hacks would work, if at all, with vBulletin 3, with no luck - "3" is only one character. If I start a vBulletin-based blog, it would probably be rendered useless after vB3 comes out.

If anyone can point me to a relevant thread, I'd appreciate it.

Well check out vbulletin.com they will keep you updated. Luke said most hacks can be made to work, if you know where to place them in the script properly. I would suggest to go vbulletin.com and just read around, it would be the better place to get more information on vb3.

greater hacks with new files would work proberly we think, also if they won't these cann be updated with not too much work :)

I will keep using vB2 until I see some cool hacks out for vB3, or if I get bored and decide to upgrade:D

Considering no one knows when vB3 is coming out, best to use what is best available at the moment. No point waiting. Plus when vB3 comes out, you probably would not want to install it immediately until you know it's all stable. All this can take another 3-4 months. :)

its like not playing on quake 3 because your waiting for quake 4

If you have the time install the hacks, at first I was going to wait for vB3 before upgrading then I decided I wasn't going to wait any longer and thought I may as well do it, when vB3 comes should I want to upgrade I will, if I don't then my boards done :)

I believe that VB3 will be released Jan 1.

It sure would be a benefit if a approx. vBulletin3 date by the developers was announced, so I could at least know around that month or so not to hack any more big projects. :p

True. However, many hacks involve new database tables or new advanced features, which might not make the trip to vB3 well. I don't want to provide a vBulletin-based blog and have lots of users work on entries, when the hack won't work in vB3.
