help me to backup database

hi
i want to upgrade vbulletin from 2.2.6 to 2.2.8 but i need to backup my database first
i visit mysql.com and i have seen to many commands i didnt know wich one should i use or how should i use

why dont i backup the database from admin cp??? i know that the best way is to backup using the telnet.. but im not good in telnet
what do u think
should i only backup it from my admin cp??

If you have relatively small db and a fast internet connection, backing up via Admin CP works just fine.

If you have larger db or slower internet connection but have plenty of space in your server, you can still back up via Admin CP. This time use SAVE AS FILE TO THE SERVER option and save the backup as a file in your server. Then you can get it slowly and partially via an utility like flashget, getright, gozzila etc. This is how I back up my own board.

If you dont even have enough space in your server to save your backed up db, check here

thank you Logician
just to make sure..
my database is about 50MB. is it small or large??

Logician 10-01-2002 10:16 AM

If you are not on dial up it's small.. But it would take long to download 50 Mb. file (and this can cause time out errors too) with dial up connection so it can be considered large for you. If your download speed is over 10 kb./sec. you can stick with default Admin CP backup until db size goes something over 80 MB. etc.

The rule is this: Try to back up via default Admin CP back up. If you can it is ok, if you cant (get time out errors etc) or become a pain to backup via there, apply other methods..
