vbJrnl - The simpler, more powerful journal system.

vbJrnl
What it does: After installing vbJournal Lite 1.1b, I was very dissatisfied. It was by no means "lite", the default HTML templates were awful, the journal didn't match vBulletin's visual design, and there was a lot of redundant template editing. vbJrnl is a lightweight journal system that piggybacks off vBulletin's forum and thread systems.

No screenshot is available BECAUSE vbJrnl looks just like any other of your forums, but functional differences are:
  1. Only one thread/journal per user will be allowed in your new journals forum.
  2. The thread title is forced to be "[Username]'s Journal".
  3. Only the person who started the thread can reply to it (create a new entry).

Current Version: 0.9

Future versions are outlined in the text file.

If you use this hack, please click install. New versions are coming, and I'd like to let you know about them. Thank you.

Have fun, and please comment!

Lite means that it is almost BETA. And people want screens. BTW, by reading your post, it is a forum? Well, this'd seem an easy hack. I think I may go for vBJournal Lite

DrkFusion 09-24-2002 11:35 PM

vB Journal Lite is a way more functional, and it has better features, this is basically just a new forum and it doesn't organize the journals either.

I dunno why you were dissatisfied with vbJournal Lite, this seems dissatisfying more.

joeboo 09-25-2002 12:59 AM

vbJournal Lite is much nicer and can be configured however u want. So no thanks to your "dissatisfied" vbJrnl

then don't download it. it is my prerogative to be dissatisfied, and it is my prerogative to release a hack that i believe is better.

now to pick you each apart individually.
link: it's a forum, sure...but it is a forum with certain NECESSARY modifications to allow it to serve more as a collection of journals than a forum. as for being easy...i don't believe i ever said otherwise. it just makes more sense, that's all. as a screenshot, there is absolutely no reason. this hack is all about functionality. it LOOKS just like an ordinary forum.
DrkFusion: i was dissatisfied because the html code sucks (go ahead, run it through w3c.org :P) and was too much of a hassle to fix. furthermore, it didn't match the style of vBulletin and would not have without extensive modification.
joeboo: all i have to say is that vbJrnl is not dissatisfied; its author was.

and to all of you...if you don't like the hack, don't install it and don't post in my thread. others' opinions may vary. i didn't leave rude comments (which would have been truthful, btw) in vbJournal's thread, so you can kindly leave your ignorant rude comments out of mine. thank you.

What the is wrong with all of you? Nick gave his opion about that hack and made another one for users on VB.org have another choice. I tihnk maybe if people here dont have anything intellegent to say they should just DIE. ;)

And for coding standards I myself opted to make my own instead of use the vbJournal Lite. I myself do have standards with coding.

i appreciate the support neo ;)

on another note...new version - 0.91.

this version simply sets up for compatibility for future versions...to upgrade, download the text file again and do steps 4 and 5

The more hack options released, the better. I myself run my own custom Journal hack. If you don't want to use it, don't use it. :)

Link14716 09-25-2002 02:55 AM

I was just saying that I'd prefer vB Journal Lite over this. :)

Good hack though....

Kaelon 09-25-2002 03:57 AM

Isn't vBJournal Lite driven by templates, and therefore, can't one simply change most of the interface by editing templates?

An interesting hack, but I'll stick with vBJ Lite.
