Admin can PM users regardless if PM is activated by user or not

Well the titel says pretty much all. Im looking for a similar hack to this one https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=37748 except it should be for the pm system.

I sometimes have users whose e-mail adress no longer works and have no way of telling them that, but do see them online sometimes, so this would be a way of contacting them anyway.

Anyone can help me out?

is impossible. if your pm's are disabled how would you nitece you have a pm waiting for you?
is rather: enable for them the pm's and send them a pm. that's donable...

well i dont know but if the user is online and the admin could override his pm disabled status he would get a pop-up message saying there was a pm for him.

i cant really believe its impossible - nearly nothing is impossible in life ;)

If the hack first overwrites user's pm disable option, then it's possible. But the hack should also leave the option enabled after pm is sent so that he can read it. Then giving this option to the users become meaningless because since we overrided it, other users can pm him too which is something he didnt want.

I would say, email him.. :)

ok thank you logician, for explainging to me. i guess that makes sense. The only point though is, i cant send the user an email if his email isnt working, that was the whole idea behind my request ... how to contact that user if his email isnt working anymore.

quess ill have to think of something else.
thanks anyway

well, you could just delete the part from the user's settings page (and registration page, etc.), so they cannot set it anymore and it will stay on default (which you set to enabled)

but then, you cannot disable pm's anymore and that's a function that a lot of ppl use i think...

You know you can enable his PM option inside your Admin CP/User screen then send your pm, do you? I didnt mention that before because I thought you knew it..

yes logician i do know that, but then id have to leave it enabled until the user has read the pm and then turn it off again, in order to respect his original settings. thats of course a solution, but im not sure id want to go the trouble ...

@dutchman - yes i know i could enable pms for all in such a manner that they cant turn it off again, but I do try and respect my users, I would only want to contact them via pm as a last resort, if no other method was possible.

that's what I already thought, and of course, you are right about this ;)
