What does this routine do??? Forum error from it...

Hi,

When my forums get busy I get an error saying too many connections to line 38 of db_mysql.php

Line 38 is this line:
Code:

$this->link_id=mysql_pconnect($this->server,$this->user,$this->password);
Of this routine:
Code:

function connect() {
    global $usepconnect;
    // connect to db server

    if ( 0 == $this->link_id ) {
      if ($this->password=="") {
        if ($usepconnect==1) {
          $this->link_id=mysql_pconnect($this->server,$this->user);
        } else {
          $this->link_id=mysql_connect($this->server,$this->user);
        }
      } else {
        if ($usepconnect==1) {
          $this->link_id=mysql_pconnect($this->server,$this->user,$this->password);
        } else {
          $this->link_id=mysql_connect($this->server,$this->user,$this->password);
        }
      }
      if (!$this->link_id) {
        $this->halt("Link-ID == false, connect failed");
      }
      if ($this->database!="") {
        if(!mysql_select_db($this->database, $this->link_id)) {
          $this->halt("cannot use database ".$this->database);
        }
      }
    }
  }

It means that more people are trying to connect to the MySQL database than your host is currently allowing.

Line 38 is the line that first tries to connected to the DB I would guess.

Ok, for my sake can someone inform me what I need to tell my host to allow for me? They say they'll provide pretty much anything asked of them and will keep the server infront of where we need it, but this is really starting to bug both the members and myself. It's happening a lot...

On average the board gets 2000 members coming per day, at one time we get a maximum of 300 online at once. SQL usage runs from 00.05 to 02.00 when REALLY busy.

You need to ask you host to increase the maximum simultaneous MySQL connections that you are allowed.

Any idea of a figure I can give to them?

I really appreciate you replying to this, thank you. :D

To be honest, no, as I don't know what the current value would be.

However it would be a good idea to make sure that it is higher than the maximum number of users & guests on at anyone time.
