NTLDR 08-26-2002 12:09 AM

Well going by your last post I doubt you are going to listen, but here are the reasons:
  • First class support;
  • Regular updates;
  • Two excelent communities;
  • Regular updates & fixes;
  • Over 1,000 hacks instantly avalible;
  • Features, stability;
  • Powerfull template system;
  • Ability to run your entire site integrated with the forums;
  • Probably many, many more....

phpBB... I assume you are a phpBB kiddy?

For fear of starting a flame war, let me first say, my intentions are NOT hostile. ;)

phpBB is a great forum engine, but, it's not vB, if you catch my drift.

When a guy approached me, wanting a website, we collected pretty much all the bulletin boards available - the free ones to start with, and tried them out.

Yep, i've tried pretty much all of them...... vB is better than the rest - my reason, i'll simply say, because it is. No more needs saying.

umm... lets see...

Xenon :: Fire Fly :: Nakkid :: Sinecure :: Boofo :: NTLDR :: Smachol :: Logician :: Neo :: Velocd :: HellSatan :: Anime-loo :: Lesane :: Freddie

And all of the countless other ppl (not just hackers) that contribute to the greatness of vbulletin... yes the software is better no doubt. But it comes down to support these guys do more then the needed. As well as the rest of the members of the vb.org community..

Need i say more? i think not ;) ... i too am not saying that phpbb is bad... just vb.org is like home to me :)

i wouldn't hack for software that sucked and i wouldn't hack with ppl that were @$$holes ;) regards...

that was the stupidest reply I've ever heard from this board. Your giving those old farts you listed above a bad name...

vB is expandable, so are other BB's out there, but none are as user friendly as vB. vB is THE most respected BB system on the market today. I know a LOT of people that won't join a community unless it's a vB...

PHPBB isn't bad, it's better than EZ Boards :p

But for serious BB communities, it's vB or bust...I've checked out other BB's out there, UBB, PHPBB, Snitz, Burning Boards (A SAD vB knock off, except for ONE community I've seen customize their board enough to rival some plain vB's) and I must say, for my community needs, vB fits the bill in every way possible...And it's only $85 to get started, that's pocket change for all that you get. It's a great value. However, judging by your S/n, I don't think you're really interested in one day owning a vB, but you should give it a try anyway...

Those are really good people. They help others help and improve their communities. Posting something like that is making YOU look bad yourself. It's making you look judgemental, when you really don't know them, or have seen the hard work they've done. If you've come here with REAL questions, then fine, but if you own a community (I'm assuming you do), vB or not, you should know it's not good to come to a community, and cause problems by calling someone an "Old Fart"...

That's just a tad bit childish, but oh well, whatever floats your boat I guess, but depending on the Ban/ Flamming policy here, you might not last too long :)

suck my burning waffers

[D]Vincent 08-26-2002 11:39 AM

Vincent]And that person should really be banned lmao He posts a thread for a flaming war instead of an answer, he is shown how vB is better and has nothing better to do thn say "suck my burning waffers" and is a phpBB fanattic that will never like vB because he can't afford it =\

vB is just plain out better.
XMB - not enough hacks for it to be actually good.
wBB - a rip off of vB and has an annoying posting error. wBB v2.0 is going to cost money also.
phpBB - I've heard the template system was complicated but I have yet to try one so no real comment on it.
EZboard - okay should I really even say anything about this one? It plain out sucks.
vB - easy to use template system, great support, more than enough hacks, three communities now( http://www.vbulletin.org here, http://www.vbulletintemplates.com vBT.com, http://www.vbulletin.com vB.com) each with great members, plenty of hackers to give support on their hacks, vB is just plain out better ^^

vB is the reason why I even started to learn PHP. Anyone that wants a GREAT quality board would buy vB, the freebies will go with phpBB lets just leave it at that :P

I'd say, if you care about bringing members a better experiance, and they REALLY matter to you, aren't they worth the $85?? I think it's the BEST $85 I've spent in my entire life to be honest w/ you...

[D]Vincent 08-26-2002 12:18 PM

Yeah you would really get more members on a vB, to be honest the first time I saw a phpBB I thought it was ++++ and didn't want to join. Since I got a vB I stick to vB boards only, I won't join a board unless it's a friend of mine's board or if it's a vB.
