How can I point the smilie path to another server?

[posted this at vbulletin.com, and they suggested that IO make a hack request for it]

Alright, I have three domains hosting the same site, just different parts of it. One of the servers is hosting the images for my site, so basically, I want the site to get all the smilies from that server.

But everytime I specify an absolute path in "path to image" field when I edit the smilies, it comes out all wrong.

For example, my forums are located at mysite.com/forums, hence the smilies are located at mysite.com/forums/images/smilies by default ... but whenever I edit the smilies' default path (images/smilies/filename.gif) to "http://www.myothersite.com/forums/images/smilies/filename.gif", the smilies get converted into a broken image and end up pointing to "http://www.myothersite.com/forums/http://www.mysite.com/forums/images/smilies/filename.gif".

The images path in the Styles menu is already pointing to my other site, but the smilies don't seem to follow the same procedure...

So basically, I need a modification to allow me to point the smilie image path to another server, so that I can distribute the bandwidth properly between the server hosting the forums and the server hosting the images ... some people get too "smilie" happy and it can accumulate pretty bad over time...

Or at least, tell me which templates are in charge of specifying the path to the smilies in the showthread, newtopic, editpost, etc...

Any help will be appreciated...

Have you tried this?

1- Upload all your similies to your other server
2- Remove all your smilies from Admin CP
3- Click "Add Smilie" (Single Add, not multi), then add them one by one by using their other site address' like:
http://www.othersite.com/images/smilie1.gif

I believe this works..
