I am trying to create a hack, to where NewsPro v2.4 or some script, either it be CGI or PHP to where when I enter news, t would automacitly add it in to a specifdy forum in vB and have the toipic in the forums as:
Code:
This would happen to vB after you submit your news into a directory. |
Oh yeah... the news poster could select the forum topic they wanted it in. :)

but wouldn't it rise the posters post count?

TOday while in class I was think on how it could do it... Can a CGI script use a mySQL database? That is the first question.
Then you just have a new way to make a thread. Like.. The Topic = Thread Subject The Poster = Thread Poster The Message = Thread Message The Date/Tme = Thread Date & Time Get my ponit? Everything could be forclly entered into a forum called News, and then the CGI would find the stuff it just posted in the database and create a comment link and post it witht he news... I mean.. this would be a great hack to invent.. I would use it and so would many other sites. :) If anyone is interested in this, I'll need to first help get CGI/perl scripts working on my webserver, and then we could look at the code of news admin, which is pretty simple. :) Anyone? vBoard: yes. It could incress by one. |

Well, the how can a CGI Script (I'm assuming you mean PERL here (I do hate it when peeps interchange PERL and CGI like they are the same thing) given newspro is in the message) is quite simple, you use the DBI module, which uncannily happens to have the MySQL interface, cant remember how to do it off top o me head, buts its something along the usage lines of the MySQL abstraction class that Vbull uses in terms of syntax, should be easy enough to read up on that then.
