preventing "CUT AND PASTE" of thread contents...

is there a way to prevent my members from cutting and pasting contents of threads in my forums?

If its already been done can someone forward the path of the post?

thanks!

Making things harder for them can be possible by inserting some javascripts into relevant templates (header, showthread etc..), but you cant stop someone who is determined to copy paste the content. This restriction applies to all internet pages: Can a newspaper owner stop someone copying the content of his newspaper after it is out to public? Technically impossible..

You're right. After looking around and reading about it more, you can only make it harder for the member to copy and paste....but its not impossible.

Thanks anyway!

If you wanted to be a pain in the ass, you could find a way to convert the text to an image. Then somebody would likely have to retype it to change its appearance.

Easy.. frameless window, no right or middle click.

How can you prevent me from using my right click? Your only chance would be to use javascript which is a client side tool so I can disable javascripts in my settings to pass it quite easily..

Converting texts to images by hacking vb would be a real pain and even if this cant stop a user who has a OCR software.

If a web page is displayed in my browser, nothing can stop me taking its content. You can only make things harder but you cant make it impossible..

impossible. There's ways to make it more difficult but truth is when the vB templates and data get tot he browsers it's HTML and in HTML, there is no real way to guarantee no one will copy. Sorry. This is an ongoing lesson that us experienced webmasters have to drill into the heads of new webmasters who want to accomplish this. There's no perfect way. Sorry.
