are we allowed to release hacks outside vB.org?

Good question, though I'm leaning towards yes (since it is your work). If the hack contains files such as index.php, etc. Then defiantly no. But don't quote me on this ;)

Then again, this brings an issue up with all those warez/fake VB's out there, and that they could obtain these hacks. If you're releasing a hack outside VB to someone....wouldn't that (logically sounding) mean that they don't own VB? I mean, if they did they could just obtain the hacks from VB.org?

i was thinking the same way about warez...

you can release hack outside from vb.org, when you don't put in larger original code :)

but i'd release all hacks here and just give out the links, so they have to be validated users before downloading my hacks :)

Take the karma hack for instance, 1 is released here, 1 is not, both are open to the public though.

I would not see any problem in it :)

You can release your own hacks anywhere you want, as long as it doesn't include any original vBulletin code or large portions of it.

You can't however take someone else's hack and release it outside the forum, without explicit permission from the author.

I get lots of people contacting me on the various IM clients asking me for hacks. Asking me to download a hack for them from here, or to give them one of my own. I politely explain that any licensed owner is able to download hacks from here his/her own self. If it's a request for one of my own hacks, I say that they're all available here.

You know, the funny thing about some of these people is that they'll give me a link to their board, after admitting that it's pirated, and after I already explained to them that I wouldn't support piracy of this software. I admit, sometimes I string them along a little, chat with them real friendly-like, just to get that URL...which I then happily send to the piracy reporting email at Jelsoft. :)
