I wish to allow vendors to identify themselves..
 
I'd like for them to make a selection (possible requirement) when registering that identifies them as a vendor (yes/no option), and then display that somewhere in their postbit. I would not like it to show "no" as a vendor for regular members, I just want it to show if a person is a vendor. How could I do that with hacking?

Because of this part:
