Hot Linking Avatars

i seen a hack that stop bandwidth threft but blocking anyone from hotlinking attachments can someone make a hack to stop people form hotlinking avatars?

This can be done by using mod_rewrite (built into Apache.) I haven't tried to do this, maybe other users can post information about it.

How can I do this on IIS??? Is it possible?

i can't use the mod rewrite because it the avatars are not jpg or gif they are being displayed by avatar.php
