How do you get people to come to your site?
 

I see these forums of 10,000+ members and find out some haven't been out on the Net that long. I was wondering how some of these sites do it. How do you get your registered members so high? I have never liked the idea of restricted access to a forum so tight that they can't even view messages without registering. Just curious on how some of your sites get so big.

Merging means I don't own it all though, which isn't exactly what I am looking for. As for uniquness how does over 100 news postings a day sound? People still need to know your site exists before they even know you offer something unique though. :(

In our own experience, word of mouth is the best promotion :) We have a forum with around 400-500 posts a day. It's not big compared to a lot of vB's out there, but it's quite busy. Try to be original, think as a visitor not as an admin. Think what would you like to see if you were a visitor.

Nice site. Like I said, you gotta have something no one else does, either that or present it in a way no one else has..
